Sculpt from life of an Osprey Skull. I had to train myself on many new sculpting techniques to finish the work, restarting the project when discovering better methods.

The mechanics of the system relies upon gravity, vibration and vacuum friction. An 18 litre bottle almost full of water is balanced, standing upside down on its neck, on top of a large form of earth. An air pocket forms in the top of the bottle causing vacuum friction. A small piece of slate, interposed between the bottle and the earth, creates a loose seal. When the bottle is almost full, the water does not spill: the vacuum friction in the top holds the seal at the bottles’ neck. As the audience moves around the space, they cause vibrations, which disturb the water seal at the neck allowing a small amount of leakage. Simultaneously small bubbles of air rise into the pocket of air in the bottle. At a critical point the gravity acting upon the water will overcome the force of the vacuum and break the seal (as there will be too much air at the top to hold the water) causing the water to flood out in a torrent into the form of earth.
